Whale Sushi

Not a very eventful day today. I sent contact info for a census to the US Census Bureau, then had breakfast/lunch at Mr.Donut. They gave me a free lunch box set, only everything in it is pink and has pictures of penguins on it, so I don't think I'll be using it anytime soon. A new version of Taiko no Tatsujin, the taiko drum arcade game, is out; you can now play the Super Mario Bros. theme with taiko drums. I also figured out how to beat Crystal Bowie on the Space Adventure Cobra shooting game. Space Adventure Cobra is a famous science fiction manga/anime that's reminiscent of Cowboy Bebop. It stars a Han Solo-esque rogue named Cobra whose entire arm is a concealed laser gun and who is constantly smoking cigars. Scantily clad women of various types figure heavily into his adventures. In the arcade game, you hold down the trigger of the gun and drag the target area across several enemies on the screen. When you release the trigger, all the the targeted enemies are hit at once. Or you can drag the target across the same enemy multiple times and hit them with an extra powerful blast. The first level is a giant space casino shaped like a roulette wheel and one of the first bosses is a female android in a black bikini who has the personality of a wolf. I generally don't like first person shooter arcade games, but I find Space Adventure Cobra addicting. I also surprisingly found a pair of pants that fit me well at the Uni-Qlo (essentially the Japanese equivalent of Old Navy). If I want new long sleeve shirts though, I'm going to have to have people send them to me. I ate dinner at the sushi restaurant across the street and had whale sushi for the first time. I never realized how tasty Baby Beluga or Willy would be. Tomorrow I meet the new teachers who've transferred to Nanchu. I hope I get along with the new first year English teacher. I talked it over with Maia, a friend of mine who's a JET in Kyushu, and we've decided our goal this semester is to convince the students and teachers at our schools that Mariah Carey was originally a man, but the Japanese press is keeping it covered up. You see, there's a Mariah Carey song in the new textbooks we'll be using. It was bad enough having to help my students sing Celine Dion.
